Where We Cruise

We cruise out of the Taylor River and down the beautiful Opawa River, heading towards Cloudy Bay. Since a journey to Cloudy Bay and back to Blenheim would take around 8 hours, we settle for cruising the most scenic parts of the river, closer to town. The Lazy Lunchtime Cruise takes us out past residential housing and through countryside and vineyards. For those of you who know the area, we head out beyond the old Malthouse and turn the vessel roughly level with Montana Brancott winery - that's the big winery out of town, on State Highway 1 to Christchurch.

Our Late Afternoon Cruise takes you out of town and just beyond the Butter Factory Bend, where the remains of the old Butter Factory still stand - although the rabbit-canning factory has long since gone. This is the point in the river where three modes of transport converge: the mainline railway, State Highway 1 and the river pass alongside for just a few metres.
